Good Bass and Classic Country

You got to hand it to them good old boys – they knew how to spin a yarn and play a bass.

Just pop in a little Johnny Paycheck, loosen up your vocal chords and start taping your feet

Take this job and shove it
I ain’t working here no more.
I been workin’ in this factory
For ‘nye on fifteen years….
I’d give the shirt right offa’ my back
If I had the nerve to say.
Take this job and shove it

From there, move on down the road with C.W. McCall’s Convoy

Was the dark of the moon on the sixth of June
In a Kenworth pullin’ logs
Cab-over Pete with a reefer on
And a Jimmy haulin’ hogs
We is headin’ for bear on I-one-oh
‘Bout a mile outta Shaky Town
I says, “Pig Pen, this here’s the Rubber Duck.
“And I’m about to put the hammer down.”

Of course, you can’t forget Stonewall Jackson’s Waterloo

Waterloo, Waterloo, where will you meet your Waterloo?
Every puppy has his day, everybody has to pay
Everybody has to meet his Waterloo

Nor can you leave out the biggest, badest song of them all – Big John by Jimmy Dean

Ev’ry mornin’ at the mine you could see him arrive
He stood six foot six and weighed two forty five
Kinda broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hip
And everybody knew ya didn’t give no lip to Big John.
(Big John, Big John) Big Bad John (Big John)

Yet, I must say that the winner of lyrics game is none other then Little Jimmy Dickens’ May the bird of paradise fly up your nose

One fine day as I was a-walkin’ down the street
Spied a beggar man with rags upon his feet
Took a penny from my pocket
In his tin cup I did drop it
I heard him say as I made my retreat

“May the bird of paradise fly up your nose”
“May an elephant caress you with his toes”
“May your wife be plagued with runners in her hose”
“May the bird of paradise fly up your nose”

I recieved a Clapton Chrincicles cd from Deby. I’ve always enjoyed his mucicality (guitar picking). But now I have a greater appreciation for his career.
